Senior Analyst Financial Planning & Analysis.
In this key role, you will support annual budgeting, rolling forecasts, and monthly performance insights for a large utilities’ environment.
The role partners with internal stakeholders to challenge assumptions, improve forecast accuracy, perform variance/root‑cause analysis, and build models for scenario planning and business cases.
The ideal candidate is ACCA/CA/CIMA/CMA/ICWA qualified, has 4–6 years’ FP&A experience, strong Excel/modelling capability, and is comfortable working with ERP data (SAP preferred).
Strong communication skills and the ability to translate numbers into actionable insights are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the annual budget cycle end-to-end (templates, timelines, BU engagement, review, challenge, consolidation, and commentary).
- Partner with assigned Business Units to challenge assumptions, improve cost visibility, and strengthen forecasting discipline and accountability.
- Review and approval of PR and POs for assigned business partnering units in line with delegated processes.
- Prepare rolling forecasts and periodic reforecasts by incorporating performance trends, business inputs, and key drivers.
- Prepare management performance insights (dashboards/scorecards/pack commentary) highlighting KPIs, drivers, risks, and opportunities
- Draft concise performance commentary (MTD/YTD/QTD) translating financial results into ‘what happened / why / so what / actions’ for senior stakeholders.
- Calculate unit economics and evaluate volumes, margins, and cost-to-serve to clarify operational factors driving financial results for stakeholders.
- Perform variance and root-cause analysis (Actual vs Budget/Forecast), translating movements into clear drivers and recommended actions.
- Support monitoring of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and link outcomes to financial impact.
- Preparation of executive presentation packs (e.g., ARC and Board), including executive summaries, performance storytelling, and clear written commentary on key drivers, variances, risks, and outlook.
- Support coordination of inputs across entities/functions for consolidated governance packs (e.g., ensure subsidiary slides and commentary are complete, consistent, and aligned with Group performance narrative).
- Preparation of financial models for scenario planning, sensitivities, investment evaluations, and operational initiatives.
- Support business cases (CAPEX/OPEX), including benefits tracking, affordability analysis, and post‑implementation performance monitoring where required.
- Identify opportunities to simplify and automate FP&A outputs (standardised templates, controlled driver files, dashboards), reducing manual effort and improving turnaround time.
- Ensure FP&A outputs meet internal quality standards (accuracy checks, reconciliations, commentary completeness) and support management decision-making.
- Provide ad-hoc financial analysis and decision support for management requests and strategic initiatives where it's required to collect, validate, and analyse financial and operational data (ensuring data quality and consistency).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related.
- FP&A / financial modelling certification (FMVA/AFM) is an advantage.
- 4–6 years in FP&A (budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, performance insights), ideally in utilities/infrastructure/large asset environments.
- Advanced Excel (Power Query/Pivots), strong financial modelling and scenario/sensitivity analysis.
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred) and comfort working with large datasets; exposure to dashboards/BI is a plus.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management (ability to explain drivers, challenge assumptions constructively).
