Role overview

Develop new diamond materials using chemical vapour deposition to support technological solutions.

Work with CVD-grown diamond for applications in optics, semiconductors, quantum technology, and electrochemistry.

Join the materials team at the Global Innovation Centre in Harwell, Oxfordshire.

The role is suited to a recent graduate or postgraduate seeking new skills and experience.

Core responsibilities

  • Use CVD synthesis reactors, analytical equipment, and tools to synthesize, characterize, and process diamond materials.
  • Develop manufacturing techniques including polishing and shaping.
  • Design and execute work packages and analyze data to support innovation.
  • Invent and patent new CVD growth and processing methods.
  • Develop treatments, brazing, metallization, ion implantation, and mounting processes for diamond components.
  • Collaborate with commercial and academic partners on materials development, applications, and testing.

Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a relevant Engineering subject is required.
  • Practical laboratory work must be completed with attention to detail in a safe and systematic manner.
  • Strong analytical skills for data capture and interpretation are required.
  • Good interpersonal and presentation skills and the ability to work effectively in a team are required.

  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to learn quickly and apply new skills to solve novel practical problems.
  • Applicants must be able to provide documentation verifying eligibility to work in the UK.
