Mission

  • The Railway System Engineer is responsible for designing, integrating, and optimizing railway systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role involves system level thinking, covering rolling stock, signaling, infrastructure, power supply, and communication systems.

Key Accountabilities

  • System Design & Architecture: Defining and managing railway system requirements, system architecture, interaction between subsystems.
  • System Integration: Ensuring interoperability between different railway subsystems, interfaces between rolling stock, signaling, and infrastructure.
  • Performance Optimization: Enhancing railway system efficiency in terms of capacity, energy consumption, and operational reliability.
  • Verification & Validation: Ensuring railway systems adhere to performance and characteristics required by project requirements, standards, laws.
  • Lifecycle Management: Managing railway system upgrades and modernization projects.
  • Digitalization & Smart Rail Technologies: Implementing IoT, AI, and Big Data solutions for predictive maintenance and automation.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in system engineering for railway domain projects
  • Rolling Stock (Locomotives, EMUs, DMUs, High Speed Trains)
  • Signaling Systems (ETCS, CBTC, PTC, Interlocking)
  • Electrification (25kV AC, 750V DC, 3kV DC systems)
  • Track Infrastructure (Standard gauge, High Speed Rail, Light Rail, Metro)
  • Requirements and Configuration management.
  • Interface management between hardware, software, and infrastructure.
  • Managing mixed traffic operations (High speed, freight, commuter trains).
  • CENELEC Standards: EN 50126 (RAMS), EN 50128 (Software), EN 50129 (Safety)
  • ETCS/ERTMS (European Train Control System)
  • IEC 62290 (Urban Rail Control Systems)
  • UIC, AAR, and FRA Regulations (for different railway regions)
