Responsibilities
- Define and manage railway system requirements, system architecture, and interaction between subsystems
- Select appropriate technologies and configurations for new rail projects
- Ensure interoperability between different railway subsystems and interfaces between rolling stock, signaling, and infrastructure
- Validate system compatibility across national and international railway networks
- Enhance railway system efficiency in terms of capacity, energy consumption, and operational reliability
- Ensure railway systems adhere to performance and characteristics required by project requirements, standards, and laws
- Define and monitor the execution of the V&V plan
- Manage railway system upgrades and modernization projects
- Support asset management and maintenance planning to maximize system longevity
- Implement IoT, AI, and Big Data solutions for predictive maintenance and automation
- Work with Digital Twin, Remote Monitoring, and Smart Signaling technologies
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in system engineering for railway domain projects
- Experience with Rolling Stock, Signaling Systems, Electrification, Track Infrastructure
- Requirements and Configuration management experience
- Interface management between hardware, software, and infrastructure
- Knowledge of CENELEC Standards: EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129
- Knowledge of ETCS/ERTMS
- Experience with systems engineering tools: DOORS, Enterprise Architect
- Experience with failure & safety analysis tools: ReliaSoft, FMECA, FTA Tools
- Experience with electrical & mechanical design tools: MATLAB, Simulink, CATIA
- Working with V Model, Agile, or Waterfall methodologies
- Managing large scale railway system deployment projects

Mission
- The Railway System Engineer is responsible for designing, integrating, and optimizing railway systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
- This role involves system level thinking, covering rolling stock, signaling, infrastructure, power supply, and communication systems.
- The Railway System Engineer will join the RINA team as Interface Engineer in order to be part of national and international railway projects.
- His scope covers the entire lifecycle of railway projects, from concept to operation and maintenance.
- The successful candidate will have previous experience in requirements, interface and configuration management.
Key Accountabilities
- System Design & Architecture: Defining and managing railway system requirements, system architecture, interaction between subsystems (rolling stock, signaling, tracks, power supply).
- Selecting appropriate technologies and configurations for new rail projects.
- System Integration: Ensuring interoperability between different railway subsystems, interfaces between rolling stock, signaling, and infrastructure.
- Validating system compatibility across national and international railway networks (e.g., ERTMS, CBTC, PTC).
- Performance Optimization: Enhancing railway system efficiency in terms of capacity, energy consumption, and operational reliability.

Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in system engineering for railway domain projects.
- Rolling Stock (Locomotives, EMUs, DMUs, High Speed Trains).
- Signaling Systems (ETCS, CBTC, PTC, Interlocking).
- Electrification (25kV AC, 750V DC, 3kV DC systems).
- Track Infrastructure (Standard gauge, High Speed Rail, Light Rail, Metro).
- Requirements and Configuration management.
- Interface management between hardware, software, and infrastructure.
- Managing mixed traffic operations (High speed, freight, commuter trains).
- CENELEC Standards: EN 50126 (RAMS), EN 50128 (Software), EN 50129 (Safety).
- ETCS/ERTMS (European Train Control System).
- IEC 62290 (Urban Rail Control Systems).
- UIC, AAR, and FRA Regulations (for different railway regions).
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
