Role Overview
The QA Integration Engineer will ensure the robustness, reliability, and security of enterprise integration flows and middleware components built on the IBM webMethods integration layer.
The role tests operational back-office platforms, third-party web services, and middle-tier microservices.
Key Responsibilities
- Review integration specifications, Swagger/OpenAPI documentation, and data mapping sheets to create end-to-end testing strategies.
- Design and execute functional, regression, boundary, and negative scenarios for REST and SOAP APIs across IBM webMethods.
- Validate bidirectional data exchange and state changes across APIs, ERP, enterprise asset management, and legacy databases.
- Build automated API test suites integrated with CI/CD deployment pipelines.
- Validate payload structures, JSON/XML schemas, data transformations, and transaction rollbacks.
- Perform non-functional testing for rate limiting, API latency, error resilience, and OAuth or mTLS authentication.
- Track integration defects, coordinate root-cause analysis, and monitor fixes to closure.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 5 years of dedicated software quality assurance experience, including at least 2 years in middleware, microservices, and API integration testing.
- Experience testing within an ESB or integration middleware ecosystem such as IBM webMethods, Software AG, or a comparable platform.
- High proficiency in API testing tools such as Postman, Newman, SoapUI, ReadyAPI, or JMeter.
- Strong understanding of API authentication protocols, message brokers, HTTP status codes, and distributed system architectures.
- Proficiency in complex SQL queries for validating database-level state changes after API execution.
- ISTQB, Postman API, and IBM webMethods certifications are preferred.
- Python or JavaScript automation, CI/CD test automation, XML/JSON parsing, and mock service virtualization are preferred.
