JOB Description
Position Title
Main Purpose of the Position
To lead and implement process safety strategies, ensuring regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement to prevent incidents and ensure safe operations in gasification and power production.
Job Objectives
Process Safety Compliance & Regulatory Adherence: To ensure compliance with process safety regulations, industry standards (e.g., OSHA PSM, API, NFPA), and corporate policies.
Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) & Risk Assessment: To conduct and lead process hazard analyses (PHA), HAZOP, LOPA, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
Incident Investigation & Root Cause Analysis : To lead investigations into process-related incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective/preventive measures.
Safety Systems & Critical Equipment Integrity: To oversee the management of safety-critical equipment, alarms, interlocks, and emergency shutdown systems to prevent process failures.
Management of Change (MOC) & Operational Risk Management: To implement and oversee the MOC process to ensure safe modifications of equipment, processes, and operational procedures.
Emergency Preparedness & Response for Process Safety Events: To develop, implement, and maintain emergency response plans and drills for process safety-related incidents.
Process Safety Training & Workforce Engagement: To develop and deliver process safety training programs to enhance awareness and competency among employees and contractors.
Continuous Improvement & Performance Monitoring: To track process safety performance metrics, conduct audits, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety culture.
Formal Qualifications/Education
- Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or HSE.
- Preferred
- CCPSC or equivalent .
Job Related Work Experience
Essential
Work experience in process safety management within high-risk industries (e.g., gasification, power generation, oil & gas, petrochemicals 10 - 15 years.
Experience in a leadership or managerial role 5 years.
Job Related Knowledge and skills
- Expertise in OSHA PSM (29 CFR 1910.119), EPA RMP, ISO 45001, NFPA, API, and IEC 61511 compliance.
- Expert
- Proficiency in HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA, FMEA, and Bowtie Analysis for identifying and mitigating process risks.
- Proficient
- Understanding of hazardous chemicals, flammable materials, reactivity hazards, and toxicology in industrial operations.
- Knowledge of different problem solving and root cause analysis methods to analyze process safety incidents .
- Ability to develop emergency plans, explosion prevention measures, and fire protection strategies in high-risk environments.
- Advanced
- Ability to assess process safety risks, analyze data, and implement effective mitigation strategies.
- Strong capability to lead PSM initiatives, enforce compliance, and drive a proactive safety culture.
- Ability to develop and deliver PSM training programs, report findings, and communicate risks to stakeholders.
- Experience in conducting PSM audits, regulatory compliance assessments, and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
- Ability to oversee safety projects, improve process safety systems, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
