Role overview
The role is for a Principal Software Engineer serving as a technical authority for critical systems and platform architecture.
The engineer will define long-term direction for a high-performance, low-latency distributed database and underlying systems.
The position combines deep technical expertise, architectural leadership, organizational influence, and mentorship.
Key responsibilities
- Define architecture and technical direction across networking, storage, low-level I/O, and hardware interaction.
- Act as an escalation point for complex systems, scalability, reliability, and performance challenges.
- Lead technical initiatives across multiple subsystems, teams, and engineering groups.
- Establish architectural principles, performance standards, engineering practices, and design guidelines.
- Translate customer and business requirements into technical strategies and influence roadmaps.
- Guide architecture and design reviews for performance-critical systems.
- Mentor Staff and Senior Staff engineers and develop technical leaders.
- Own benchmarking methodologies covering throughput, latency, scalability, and total cost of ownership.
- Apply AI and machine learning to test generation, diagnostics, performance analysis, and system prediction.
- Provide technical expertise and performance evidence for enterprise customer engagements.
