Role Definition
The Principal Digital Architect – Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) is responsible for defining, designing, and governing enterprise-scale content management and digital experience architectures with Adobe Experience Manager as the core platform.
This role provides hands-on architectural leadership to translate business, brand, and customer experience strategies into scalable, secure, and extensible AEM-based solutions, aligned with Cat Digital and enterprise architecture standards.
The role acts as the AEM technical authority and trusted advisor across Marketing, IT, Engineering, Data, and Security teams—ensuring successful adoption, integration, performance, and value realization of AEM within the broader Adobe Experience Cloud ecosystem.
AEM Architecture Strategy & Target Design
Assess current-state content, web, and digital experience ecosystems and define future-state AEM-centric architectures aligned with business objectives and omnichannel experience strategies.
Develop AEM solution architectures, reference patterns, and content delivery roadmaps (Sites, Assets, Headless, Edge Delivery Services).
Define architecture approaches for multi-site, multi-brand, multi-region implementations.
Ensure AEM architectures meet enterprise standards for scalability, performance, security, compliance, and operational readiness.
Drive architectural decisions through trade-off analysis and Architectural Decision Records (ADRs).
Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Architecture Leadership
Lead architecture and solution design across Adobe Experience Manager, including:
AEM Sites (authoring, templating, components)
AEM Assets (DAM, Dynamic Media, renditions, workflows)
Headless AEM (Content Fragments, GraphQL, APIs)
Edge Delivery Services / Headless Delivery patterns
AEM Authoring, Publishing, Dispatcher/CDN architectures
AEM cloud-native deployments (AEM as a Cloud Service)
AEM Guides (documentation and structured content)
Define and enforce Adobe-recommended architecture patterns, cloud service best practices, and extensibility models.
Provide architectural guidance on component design, content modeling, caching, performance optimization, and authoring governance.
Partner with delivery teams to reduce technical risk, rework, and long-term maintenance costs.
Integration with Adobe Experience Platform & MarTech Ecosystem
Architect integrations between AEM and Adobe Experience Platform, including:
Adobe Experience Platform (AEP)
Real-Time Customer Data Platform (RT-CDP)
Adobe Target, Analytics, and Customer Journey Analytics
Adobe Journey Optimizer, Campaign, and Marketo Engage
Define personalization and activation patterns using AEM + AEP + Target.
Design event-driven and API-based integrations between AEM and enterprise systems (commerce, CRM, identity, product data).
Data, Identity & Integration Architecture
Define content, customer, and experience data models aligned across AEM and AEP.
Architect secure integration patterns using REST APIs, events, messaging, CDN, and cloud-native services.
Ensure identity, consent, and privacy-by-design principles are embedded into AEM-driven experiences.
Drive data quality, lineage, and compliance considerations in all architecture designs.
Architecture Governance & Delivery Enablement
Provide architectural leadership across global, multi-vendor delivery teams.
Define and enforce AEM architecture standards, guardrails, and governance models.
Review solution designs for performance, scalability, authoring usability, security, and operational excellence.
Actively identify architectural risks and recommend mitigation strategies across delivery lifecycle.
Stakeholder & Executive Engagement
Partner with Marketing, Brand, IT, Data, Security, and Engineering leaders to align AEM capabilities with business and CX outcomes.
Translate complex AEM and MarTech architectures into clear, value-focused narratives for executive and non-technical stakeholders.
Support executive decision-making through concise architecture artifacts, options analysis, and recommendations.
