Role Overview

The Port Captain will support marine and vessel management activities across multiple offshore EPC projects in Qatar.

The position is primarily based in Doha and requires frequent travel to project vessels, ports, shipyards, fabrication yards, and offshore locations.

The role coordinates with vessel owners, Masters, offshore teams, subcontractors, port authorities, marine service providers, and other stakeholders.

Main Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage project vessels, including pipelay, subsea construction, cable and umbilical installation, diving support, and marine support vessels.
  • Monitor mobilization, demobilization, port calls, readiness, inspections, audits, and deficiency close-out.
  • Act as the primary marine interface between project teams, vessel owners, Masters, management companies, and offshore construction teams.
  • Coordinate vessel movements, port operations, marine logistics, transfers, loading, offloading, bunkering, towing, and related activities.
  • Review vessel capabilities, technical readiness, and operational suitability with engineering, construction, HSE, and QA/QC teams.
  • Provide marine input to scheduling, port arrangements, SIMOPS, and offshore interface management.
  • Monitor vessel status, availability, maintenance, constraints, and project requirements, escalating issues that may affect safety or schedule.
  • Prepare vessel status, readiness, and mobilization reports and provide updates to project management teams.
  • Participate in marine risk assessments and coordinate mitigation measures.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in marine operations, offshore construction, vessel management, or marine project execution.
  • Previous experience as a Port Captain, Marine Superintendent, Master, Chief Officer, or similar marine management professional is preferred.
  • Strong experience coordinating multiple offshore vessels and related mobilization, readiness, port, inspection, logistics, and construction activities.
  • Experience with pipelay, subsea construction, cable installation, or diving support vessels is an advantage.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Previous Middle East, Qatar, or QatarEnergy project experience is an advantage.
  • Fluent English communication skills are required.

Assignment Details

  • This is a contract role expected to continue until 2031.
  • The anticipated start is as soon as possible, subject to a notice period of up to one month.
