About The Service

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Planning Service located within the Policy Group.

The Policy Group is responsible for the preparation of the Replacement Local Development Plan which sets out the Council’s long term planning vision to 2036. As a Planner you will be at the forefront of helping us deliver this future planning vision for the city.

Your role will be to help formulate and implement policies on a range of topics including future housing and employment growth to policies aimed at tackling the declared climate and nature emergencies. This is a significant period of change for the city and this role provides an opportunity to help shape the city of tomorrow.

About the job

You will be at the heart of developing, implementing and monitoring future planning policy for the city.

You will be responsible for;

Assisting in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of planning policy and guidance, including the ongoing preparation of the Replacement Cardiff Local Development Plan and related Supplementary Planning Guidance,

Assisting in the formulation of the Council’s input into the ongoing preparation of the Strategic Development Plan for South East Wales.

Gathering and analysing data and drafting reports and technical papers to support the preparation, implementation and monitoring of planning policy

Presenting reports, technical papers at meetings, committees, public inquires and outside organisations.

Coordinating, liaising and engaging with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure a collaborative approach to the delivery of planning policy.

Responding to queries from the public, members, colleagues and other parties regarding a range of planning policy related matters

What We Are Looking For From You

The role will be for an enthusiastic individual who is able to demonstrate the requirements and experience detailed in the Person Specification. We are seeking a diligent, self-motivated person who can use their initiative and has good interpersonal skills to join our team. The role will require excellent communication and organisational skills together with some knowledge and understanding of the issues relating to Local Development Plans.
