Role Overview
McCarthy Tétrault is recruiting a Manager, Learning and Development for its Toronto, Vancouver, or Montreal office.
The role designs and delivers innovative lawyer development programs, leads AI-enabled learning initiatives, and oversees MT Academy program execution.
The successful candidate must have at least five years of experience designing, developing, and delivering professional education programs.

MT Academy Responsibilities
- Design, develop, deliver, and improve national leadership and business development programs for lawyers from student through partner level.
- Lead targeted associate retreats, including objectives, curriculum, faculty, logistics, budgets, venues, delivery, and outcome evaluation.
- Collaborate on legal knowledge and practice skills programming across practice areas.
- Use in-person, virtual, blended, simulation, assessment, and on-demand learning formats.
- Partner with leaders, subject matter experts, vendors, and faculty to plan programs and develop materials.
- Conduct needs assessments and maintain knowledge of legal education, instructional design, facilitation, and e-learning trends.
- Develop evaluation frameworks and metrics to measure program effectiveness and learning impact.
AI-Enabled Learning
- Support AI-enabled learning initiatives by integrating Client Service Delivery workflows and tools into curriculum design.
- Translate legal service delivery workflows into practical, scenario-based, and experiential learning experiences.
- Design AI-enhanced simulations, coaching tools, adaptive learning, and other technology-supported learning experiences.
- Identify opportunities to incorporate AI into instructional design, facilitation, learner engagement, and program scalability.
- Support external AI learning initiatives with law schools and early talent pipelines.
Team Leadership
- Manage the day-to-day functional activities of the MT Academy Coordinator, a direct report, through work assignment, supervision, and collaboration.
Qualifications
- LLB or bachelor's degree combined with at least five years of educational program development and delivery experience.
- Experience working in legal practice or with lawyers in a non-practice environment.
- Substantial experience managing professional development programs for lawyers or paralegals.
- Experience with instructional design, adult learning theories, curriculum planning, course development software, visual design, and instructional writing.
- Law firm or professional services experience is preferred.
- A certificate or course in instructional design is an asset.
- French language ability is an asset.
Candidate Profile
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and comfort speaking to groups of students and lawyers.
- Strong interpersonal, service orientation, problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple demands under pressure with accuracy, initiative, and minimal supervision.
- Flexibility to work variable hours, including occasional evening work during heavy workload periods.
Salary
- The salary range for Toronto or Vancouver is CAD 95,000 to CAD 105,000 annually.
- Offered salary may vary based on job-specific knowledge, skills, and experience.
