Role purpose and scope

Lead the central team responsible for accurate, consistent, available and high-quality data across approximately 120 data domains and 870 data families.

Drive data governance for digital use cases and data platform operations to protect data integrity and support decision-making.

Advise leadership on enterprise-wide data governance solutions and challenges.

Governance strategy and maturity

  • Drive the enterprise data governance framework, strategy and roadmap.
  • Lead data governance maturity assessments, annual improvement plans, data literacy and organisational upskilling.
  • Represent the data management team and data stewards at leadership meetings, councils and steering committees.

Digital use cases and AI governance

  • Embed governance practices in AI, advanced analytics, digital use cases and data platform operations.
  • Define data quality rules, technical metadata lineage, business glossaries and data steward approvals for digital use cases.
  • Establish an AI governance framework covering operating boundaries, controls, data quality assurance and responsible scaling.

Governance solutions and controls

  • Configure data hierarchies, roles, catalogs, quality controls and business glossaries in data governance tools.
  • Lead data quality controls and source management to reduce risks associated with data and analytics.
  • Ensure data certification standards are followed for data loads, migrations and application changes.

Policies and stakeholder management

  • Develop and monitor data management policies, procedures, metadata standards, guidelines and governance processes.
  • Govern data sources and align data operations with governance requirements and best practices.
  • Report progress and challenges to senior management and work with business areas, IT, data owners, stewards, vendors and contractors.

Budget and team dimensions

  • Manage an annual budget of approximately USD 2 million, two direct reports and five service contracts.
  • Lead a central team supporting data governance improvements across 16 departments.

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Management or an engineering or business-related equivalent.
  • 10+ years of Data Management experience in Oil and Gas upstream or downstream operations and major capital projects.
  • 5+ years in a management or lead position delivering similar engineering information projects.
  • Strong hands-on experience with governance strategies, frameworks, roadmaps, data roles, technology stacks, quality, lineage and business glossaries.
  • Experience in change management, programme management, stakeholder management and data integration.

Technical knowledge and language

  • Understanding of BI, data science, data warehouses or lakes, master data management, data modelling, EDMS, databases and information security principles.
  • Knowledge of upstream and downstream DIM requirements and applications architecture.
  • Fluent spoken and written English.
