Position Overview

  • The Mubadala Arabian Center for Climate and Environmental Sciences (Mubadala ACCESS) at NYUAD invites applications for a Junior Research Scientist.
  • Support a multidisciplinary research program investigating environmental and ecological drivers of productive fishing grounds in the UAE.
  • Working alongside researchers from NYUAD and Emirates Nature–WWF.
  • Contribute to marine habitat mapping, spatial analysis, and environmental data integration to support fisheries management and marine conservation.

Responsibilities

  • Support the acquisition, processing, and analysis of marine spatial and environmental datasets.
  • Assist in developing habitat maps, managing spatial databases, integrating environmental monitoring data, and producing analytical outputs.
  • Combine office based spatial analysis with opportunities to participate in field surveys, environmental monitoring, and marine habitat assessments across the UAE.
  • Assist with processing GIS, bathymetric, habitat, and environmental datasets.
  • Maintain project databases and support the development of habitat maps and spatial products.
  • Assist with side scan sonar and underwater imagery processing, data quality assurance, statistical analyses, and preparation of maps, figures, reports, and scientific publications.
  • Participate in field campaigns to collect environmental and spatial reference data.
  • Contribute to project reporting and stakeholder deliverables.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Marine Science, Geography, GIS, Oceanography, Environmental Science, Spatial Ecology, or a closely related discipline.
  • Master's degree and less than 5 years of research experience, or a Bachelor's degree with any level of experience.
  • Experience using GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS.
  • Experience managing scientific datasets and conducting quantitative analyses using software such as R or Python.
  • Experience with marine habitat mapping, environmental monitoring data, side scan sonar, or remote sensing is desirable.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team.
