Job Scope Summary

The Junior Mechanical Technician performs skilled mechanical installation, adjustment, servicing, and repair work.

The equipment is used in Energy-from-Waste processing and electrical-generating plants.

The role also includes workshop support tasks.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical repairs, preventive maintenance, and fabrication on plant operating equipment.
  • Carry out pipefitting, rigging, assembly, and disassembly of conveyors, piping, pumps, valves, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Use sketches, blueprints, and complex drawings for assigned work.
  • Consult operations and technical groups about safety procedures and job hazards.
  • Dismantle, overhaul, reassemble, and adjust conveyors, turbines, generators, boilers, pumps, valves, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Inspect and lubricate plant equipment and make adjustments to maintain efficient operation.
  • Perform heavy lifting and rigging.
  • Use torch and welding equipment for repair welding.
  • Perform piping, valve packing, and integrity testing work.
  • Work inside and outside the plant, including at heights on scaffolding and ladders.
  • Maintain clean and orderly work areas and assist with workshop support tasks.
  • Perform milling, lathing, drilling, and welding activities.

Education and Certifications

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent certification.
  • HSE-accredited training qualifications.
  • Welding certification.
  • Milling, lathing, and workshop equipment certification.

Experience and Technical Requirements

  • At least four years of experience as a Mechanical Technician.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, and sample parts.
  • Knowledge of machine shop procedures, mathematics, material machinability, and layout techniques.
  • Advanced skills in coupling alignment, close-tolerance fitting, valves, and high-pressure steam systems.
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments and troubleshoot and maintain valves and high-pressure steam systems.
  • Understanding and use of lockout procedures; forklift training and certification.
  • Familiarity with HSE standards, procedures, and requirements.
  • Basic knowledge and experience with materials, welding electrodes, electric welding, and argon welding.
  • Basic knowledge and experience with TIG and MMA welding; 6G-coded pressure-parts experience is preferable.
  • Basic knowledge of milling, lathing, drilling, and other workshop activities.
