Mechanical Maintenance Engineer / Outage Leader

Job Scope Summary

Outage and Maintenance Responsibilities

• Lead planned boiler outages from scope definition and planning through contractor selection, implementation, commissioning, and reporting.
• Supervise contractors during outages and other projects while ensuring safety rules are followed.
• Optimize preventive and condition-based maintenance programs using OEM guidance, industry practices, and monitoring data.
• Inspect mechanical systems, troubleshoot failures, identify root causes, and support repairs or replacement of faulty components.
• Maintain accurate records of equipment installations, malfunctions, maintenance, and repairs.

Coordination and Compliance

• Collaborate with maintenance engineers and production teams to improve equipment performance and reliability.
• Prepare scopes of work, participate in tenders and contractor selection, and contribute to budget priorities using risk and benefit evaluations.
• Participate in Management of Change activities and attend HSE and ISO inspections, audits, assessments, and meetings.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or an equivalent qualification.
• At least five years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, with substantial experience in welding, fabrication, or rotating equipment.
• Experience with boiler, turbine, plant major turnaround, or outage work.
• Experience in waste-to-energy, power generation, or continuous-fire industries is a plus.

Technical Knowledge

• Knowledge of CMMS and related maintenance software.
• Familiarity with HSE standards, procedures, and safe plant operations.
• Familiarity with industrial safety requirements for pressurized gases, chemicals, and lasers.
• Knowledge of waste-to-energy assets including boilers, pressure vessels, conveyors, cranes, pumps, compressors, fans, exchangers, storage tanks, and piping.

Training and Capabilities

• HSE-accredited training qualifications are preferred.
• The role requires leadership of large groups of external resources, clear instruction and training, problem-solving, adaptability, teamwork, and the ability to work under pressure.
• Excellent written, reading, and verbal English communication skills are required.
