Role Overview

• Ensure compliance with data protection and data residency obligations across UAE and US jurisdictions, and support the company's obligations to lenders, partners and regulators on IT and cyber matters.
• Build and lead the IT team as the organisation scales through FID and into construction.

Company Description
A privately held energy company headquartered in Abu Dhabi is developing a large-scale LNG export terminal in Alaska with associated marine, pipeline, and administrative infrastructure.
The project is in development, with the corporate structure, project delivery organization, and support functions being built from a small core team.
The IT Director will be the first and only senior IT appointment and will establish the technology function for the Abu Dhabi corporate office and US project organization.
IT Strategy and Infrastructure
- Define and own the IT strategy, architecture, and roadmap for the corporate entity and project organization.
- Build identity and access management, cloud, collaboration and document management, endpoint management, networking, and telephony across two geographies.
- Select and implement ERP, finance, HR, procurement, document control, and project controls systems.
- Manage the vendors delivering business systems and technology services.
Cybersecurity and Resilience
- Establish cybersecurity policy, governance, threat monitoring, incident response, and disaster recovery.
- Operate cybersecurity at a standard appropriate to critical energy infrastructure and a US-regulated environment.
- Ensure compliance with data protection and data residency obligations across UAE and US jurisdictions.
- Support IT and cybersecurity obligations to lenders, partners, and regulators.
Alaska Operations
- Set up IT for remote and construction-site operations in Alaska.
- Provide connectivity in a low-infrastructure, extreme-climate location, together with site networks, field devices, and a support model.
Commercial and Team Leadership
- Own the IT budget, CAPEX/OPEX planning, and contracts with MSPs, integrators, and software vendors.
- Build and lead the IT team as the organization scales through final investment decision and construction.
Experience Requirements
- At least 12 years in IT, including at least five years in a Head of IT or IT Director role reporting to executive level.
- Experience standing up an IT function from the ground up through a greenfield build, new entity setup, or major carve-out.
- Track record in oil and gas, LNG, power, or heavy industrial capital projects.
- Experience with projects moving from development through construction into operations is a strong advantage.
- Hands-on depth in Azure and/or AWS, Microsoft 365, identity management, and enterprise networking.
- Ownership of cybersecurity in a critical-infrastructure or OT-adjacent context, with familiarity with NIST CSF, ISO 27001, or equivalent frameworks.
- End-to-end ERP selection and implementation experience.
Commercial and International Qualifications
- Strong commercial and vendor management skills, including negotiation and management of multi-million-dollar service contracts.
- Experience working across multiple jurisdictions and time zones, ideally including the United States.
- A degree in computer science, information systems, or engineering.
- Relevant CISSP, CISM, TOGAF, or cloud architect certifications are advantageous.
- English fluency is essential.
Location and Travel
- The role is based in Abu Dhabi with regular travel to the United States.
- The position requires worldwide travel without restriction and support for remote and construction-site operations in Alaska.
