Role overview

The Heavy Equipment Workshop Incharge is responsible for repairs, reconditioning, and overhauls of vehicles and equipment used by crusher, transport, and site operations.

The role manages workshop operations and ensures the quality and efficiency of work performed in workshops and at sites.

The position requires an engineering background, supervision and delegation ability, troubleshooting capability, and strong leadership and communication skills.

Workshop operations

  • Manage major repairs workshop operations for crusher, readymix, and transport activities, including heavy equipment, tractor heads, trailers, generators, tankers, concrete machinery, and other vehicles.
  • Oversee overhauls, major rehabilitation, reconditioning, testing, and rebuilding.
  • Ensure periodic, preventive, breakdown, and reconditioning maintenance follows OEM procedures, checklists, and systems.
  • Restore rehabilitated components and machinery to OEM specifications.

Resources and cost control

  • Manage manpower, machines, materials, and time to maximize productivity.
  • Promote repair and reconditioning over replacement where applicable.
  • Compare repair costs with second-hand, reconditioned, and new components to identify cost-effective solutions.
  • Control department and job costs and ensure cost-effective execution.

Quality and job management

  • Conduct inspections to maintain stringent OEM work standards and minimize rework.
  • Use job cards for maintenance work and ensure complete daily invoicing.
  • Coordinate with operations offices and head office on maintenance, manpower, and machinery matters.
  • Provide designated activity reports to management.

People and administration

  • Maintain parts, items, and materials inventory through requests and coordination with purchasing and stores.
  • Evaluate supervised employees and conduct performance appraisals.
  • Coordinate training and skills development with the Technical Head and HR department.
  • Manage departmental administration and ensure compliance with company policies and systems.
  • Coordinate with administration and accounts to enter complete job data into the ERP system.
  • Interview, test, and hire skilled mechanical and electrical personnel and remove non-performing staff where required.
  • Manage round-the-clock activities to meet production and delivery schedules.

  • Work location is in person.

Requirements

  • Engineering background suitable for heavy equipment workshop operations.
  • Ability to supervise, monitor, and delegate workshop work according to priorities.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and oversee quality assurance of completed work.
  • Ability to manage manpower, machines, materials, and time for productivity.
  • Ability to manage workshop costs and deliver cost-effective repair solutions.
  • Ability to manage staff performance, training, and skills development.
  • Ability to manage departmental administration and comply with company systems and policies.
  • Ability to interview, test, hire, and manage mechanical and electrical personnel.
