Firefighting Engineer

Role Overview

Design and Engineering

• Review and approve designs for sprinklers, hydrants, hose reels, fire pumps, and foam or gas suppression systems.
• Perform hydraulic calculations against NFPA 13, 14, and 20 and local Civil Defense requirements.
• Review shop drawings, material submittals, and technical specifications.

Installation and Execution

• Supervise on-site installation of fire pumps, piping networks, sprinkler heads, hydrants, and detection interfaces.
• Coordinate fire-fighting works with electrical, HVAC, BMS, and SCADA disciplines.
• Monitor progress against schedule and resolve site execution issues.

Testing and Commissioning

• Lead flushing, hydrostatic or pressure testing, and functional testing of fire pumps and systems.
• Coordinate integrated testing with fire alarm, life-safety, and BMS systems.
• Prepare commissioning reports and ensure readiness for Civil Defense inspection and approval.

Compliance and QHSE

• Ensure work complies with NFPA, local Civil Defense codes, and project specifications.
• Liaise with authorities for approvals, inspections, and NOC issuance.
• Enforce QHSE standards during installation and testing activities.

Documentation and Handover

• Maintain as-built drawings, test certificates, and operation and maintenance manuals.
• Prepare fire-fighting system handover packages for operations and facilities management.
• Train facilities and operations staff on system operation and maintenance.

Team and Stakeholder Management

• Supervise fire-fighting technicians, foremen, and subcontractors.
• Liaise with client representatives, consultants, and authority engineers.
• Support cost estimation, material take-offs, and variation assessments for the fire-fighting scope.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
• 2–4 years of experience in fire-fighting systems design or execution, preferably in the UAE or GCC.
• NFPA certification such as CFPS is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Dubai and Abu Dhabi Civil Defense approval procedures.
• Experience with fire pump testing, hydraulic calculations, and BMS or fire-alarm interface coordination.
• UAE driving license is mandatory.

Key Skills

• NFPA codes and standards, including 13, 14, 20, and 72.
• Hydraulic design software such as Hydratec or Elite Fire is advantageous.
• AutoCAD or Revit MEP experience is advantageous.
• Strong coordination, leadership, and client-facing communication skills.
• QHSE awareness and site safety leadership.
