Job Summary

  • The Emergency Room (ER) Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering high quality, evidence based nursing care to patients presenting with acute illnesses, injuries, and life threatening emergencies.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Perform rapid patient assessment and triage according to the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) or hospital triage protocols.
  • Assess, monitor, and document patients' vital signs and clinical conditions.
  • Deliver safe, competent, and compassionate nursing care to patients with medical, surgical, pediatric, and trauma emergencies.
  • Administer medications, intravenous fluids, blood products, and emergency treatments as prescribed.
  • Initiate emergency nursing interventions based on patient condition and clinical protocols.
  • Assist physicians during emergency procedures, including resuscitation, intubation, central line insertion, chest tube insertion, wound suturing, and fracture management.
  • Monitor patients for changes in condition and promptly escalate concerns to the treating physician.
  • Prepare patients for diagnostic tests, imaging, and emergency procedures.

Emergency & Critical Care Responsibilities

  • Participate actively in Code Blue, trauma activations, and mass casualty incidents.
  • Provide Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) interventions within scope of practice.
  • Assist in airway management and emergency resuscitation.
  • Operate emergency equipment, including cardiac monitors, defibrillators, infusion pumps, suction devices, and oxygen delivery systems.
  • Ensure emergency carts and equipment are fully stocked and operational.

Patient Care

  • Deliver patient centered care while maintaining dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.
  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, discharge instructions, and follow up care.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and their families during emergency situations.
  • Ensure safe patient transfers within the hospital when required.

Documentation

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete nursing documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Record assessments, interventions, medication administration, and patient responses.
  • Complete incident reports and clinical documentation in accordance with hospital policies.

Infection Prevention & Patient Safety

  • Adhere to infection prevention and control policies, including standard and transmission based precautions.
  • Ensure compliance with medication safety, patient identification, and fall prevention protocols.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized emergency care environment.
  • Report clinical incidents, medication errors, and safety concerns promptly.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration

  • Collaborate effectively with Emergency Physicians, Specialists, Respiratory Therapists, Laboratory, Radiology, Pharmacy, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, patient handovers, and emergency response teams.
  • Support junior nursing staff and nursing students as assigned.

Quality & Professional Development

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and departmental meetings.
  • Maintain competency through Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities.
  • Attend mandatory hospital training, including emergency preparedness, fire safety, and infection control.
  • Maintain professional registration and certifications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or an equivalent nursing qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Valid Dubai Health Authority (DHA) Registered Nurse License or DHA Eligibility Letter.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certifications are preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of recent experience in an Emergency Department or Acute Care setting.
  • Experience in trauma, critical care, or emergency nursing is highly preferred.
  • Previous experience in a DHA licensed healthcare facility is an advantage.
