Role overview

Support ITS and technology design activities across the M25 network while developing engineering skills under senior engineer guidance.

The role provides structured mentoring, on-the-job learning, and opportunities to progress toward professional accreditation.

Accountabilities

  • Assist with designs for CCTV, signals, VMS, ERT, MIDAS, and other roadside technology assets.
  • Produce drawings, documents, technical reports, design briefs, supplier inputs, and Review Process submissions.
  • Support design reviews, feasibility work, programme and budget monitoring, quality assurance, site visits, surveys, and inspections.
  • Support CDM Designer duties, responsible design practice, lessons learned, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Essential qualifications and skills

  • Relevant BEng, BSc, HNC, HND, or similar vocational qualification in electrical, electronics, telecommunications, or a related subject.
  • Interest in professional registration through IET, IHE, or a similar institution.
  • Basic ITS and technology systems understanding, awareness of engineering standards, good IT and Microsoft Office skills, and strong analytical abilities.
  • Willingness to learn, develop, and work within a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable experience and knowledge

  • Knowledge of CCTV, signals, VMS, or other electrical and technology equipment.
  • Awareness of the 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations, communication networks, cybersecurity principles, CDM, and health and safety legislation.
  • Relevant placement, secondment, or academic project experience in transport systems or technology design.
  • CSCS card registration, current UK driving licence, and basic Microsoft Project or planning tool knowledge.

Workplace and eligibility

  • The role includes site visits, surveys, and inspections supporting design development.
  • Applicants must be based in the UK and already have the legal right to work in the UK; sponsorship is not available.
