About The Role
The Credit Manager – FI Risk is a key position within the Wholesale Banking Risk function, based in Mumbai.
The role involves managing the bank’s lending process, including evaluating clients’ creditworthiness, approving or rejecting loan requests, and determining loan terms and interest rates.
The role holder will also be responsible for developing credit scoring models, maintaining credit policy frameworks, and partnering with the credit systems support team to implement key policy criteria in credit evaluation systems.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct regular asset quality reviews and provide analytical insights to identify risks and opportunities, recommending appropriate actions.
- Research and evaluate the creditworthiness of clients.
- Approve or reject loan requests based on credibility, potential revenue, and risk of losses.
- Calculate and set interest rates; negotiate loan terms with clients.
- Ensure credit policies and risk acceptance criteria are reviewed and updated regularly to reflect changes in legal/regulatory requirements, business strategies, market conditions, or portfolio performance.
- Develop, review, and update the bank’s credit policies.
- Follow up with clients to manage debt settlements and loan renewals.
- Create and maintain credit scoring models for risk assessment.
- Ensure adherence to the bank’s credit guidelines.
- Maintain records of all bank loans; monitor loan payments and manage bad debts.
- Analyze portfolio performance and ensure effective monitoring, trigger reviews, and delinquency control.
- Share best practices and knowledge within the team to foster continuous improvement.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Recommend improvements to processes and policies across the Retail Banking business to enhance operational efficiency and customer service quality.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to leverage in-house synergies and drive cross-functional initiatives.
Education
- Graduate degree or higher in a relevant discipline.
• Post Graduate MBA
- CA certified but it’s not mandatory
Experience
- Minimum 10yrs experience in credit risk management, preferably within wholesale or retail banking.
Skills And Attributes
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
- In-depth understanding of credit evaluation, scoring models, and lending processes.
- Familiarity with regulatory guidelines and compliance requirements.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- Ability to manage and monitor loan portfolios effectively.
- Proficiency in credit systems and data analysis tools.
- Leadership capabilities to attract and retain top talent within the team.
