As a Crane Superintendent – OSV at ZMI, you will be responsible for overseeing crane maintenance, inspections, and offshore lifting operations to ensure compliance with company, class, and manufacturer standards.
The role includes supporting preventive maintenance activities, dry dock operations, crane breakdown response, and the engineering readiness of cranes and hydraulic systems onboard ZMI OSVs.
The position will also involve coordinating with project teams, contractors, consultants, and offshore crews while managing maintenance budgets, critical spares, safety compliance, and operational support.
Responsibilities
- Assist in interviewing and assessing crane operators for manning requirements
- Collaborate with project teams, consultants, and contractors to determine crane type, capacity, and specifications
- Perform engineering calculations including load capacity, stability, and structural analysis
- Review and approve crane specifications, drawings, and documentation
- Ensure cranes are maintained according to company procedures, manufacturer recommendations, and planned maintenance requirements
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for cranes and lifting equipment
- Support offshore marine units during crane breakdowns when required
- Ensure availability of sufficient critical and capital spares
- Generate and manage maintenance budgets with the Crane & Jacking Operation Department Head
- Coordinate inspections and assessments to identify safety concerns and maintenance issues
- Develop maintenance schedules and maintain records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities
- Report outstanding maintenance requirements related to cranes and hydraulic systems
- Inspect designated OSVs periodically to ensure planned maintenance activities are completed
- Provide shore-based support for crane operations and maintenance
- Manage hydraulic oil, lubricants, wires, and crane spare requirements
- Ensure manufacturer service and maintenance requirements are incorporated into the PMS
- Provide technical guidance and support to operation teams and crews
- Conduct risk assessments and develop safe work procedures for crane operations
- Monitor compliance with safety policies, procedures, and regulations
- Investigate crane-related incidents, accidents, and near misses and implement corrective actions
- Ensure engineering readiness of cranes onboard ZMI OSVs
- Ensure dry dock works for cranes and hydraulic systems are completed according to class, company, and manufacturer standards within budget and timeframe
- Prepare dry dock and subcontractor repair scopes related to cranes and hydraulic systems where applicable
- Lead crane engineers and crane teams while monitoring KPIs and delegated objectives
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering
- Minimum 12 years of experience as a senior marine and offshore crane engineer
- Experience in offshore crane maintenance and hydraulic systems
- Knowledge of planned maintenance systems (PMS), crane inspections, and dry dock operations
- Ability to support offshore marine units on short notice during crane breakdowns
- Strong understanding of crane safety procedures and risk assessments
- Leadership and team management capabilities
- Budget management and maintenance planning experience
