Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Extensive hands-on experience and OEM training on control systems, PLC, SCADA, instrumentation, networking, and computer installations on drilling rigs.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Telecom Engineering, or Computer Science, is preferred but not essential.
  • 10–15 years of hands-on experience in a supervisory position overseeing electronics and drilling control systems.
  • Experience with major drilling OEM products on jack-up or land rigs is required; OEM training or employment is preferred.

Job-Specific Skills

  • Strong knowledge of electronics, communication systems, and software used onboard drilling rigs.
  • Advanced troubleshooting capability for control systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Proficiency in CMMS, documentation control, and data management.

Governance and Technical Standards

  • Develop and maintain discipline-specific standard operating procedures for electronics and control systems.
  • Review and validate maintenance procedures, testing requirements, and sequences through MOC and technical governance channels.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards, including API, OEM manuals, and Class or Flag requirements.

Equipment Reliability and Troubleshooting

  • Lead troubleshooting of control, engine, hydraulic, pneumatic, instrumentation, communication, fire and gas, PAGA, PABX, navigation, jacking, crane, and vehicle electronic systems.
  • Support rig electronics technicians during critical downtime events and equipment malfunctions.
  • Validate root-cause findings and corrective actions with Mechanical and Electrical subject-matter experts.

Maintenance Strategy and Execution

  • Review and recommend preventive-maintenance routines, schedules, function-test intervals, and task lists for control systems.
  • Ensure maintenance execution complies with standards, OEM recommendations, and safety-critical performance requirements.

Integrity, Certification, and Compliance

  • Conduct integrity inspections covering control systems, instrumentation, digital communication networks, PLCs, SBCs, and OEM computers.
  • Identify risks, test failures, certification gaps, and regulatory deviations, and escalate them to the supervisor.

Projects and Recertification

  • Provide subject-matter expertise for overhauls, control-system upgrades, replacements, and obsolescence-related component changes.
  • Review engineering documentation, OEM scopes, FAT or SAT plans, pressure-testing protocols, and recertification packages.
  • Assist with budget preparation in line with the forecasted business plan.

Spares and Reliability Improvement

  • Assess critical spares for control systems and monitor reliability KPIs.
  • Recommend improvements for redundancy, standardization, and obsolescence mitigation across the fleet.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records, schematics, software backups, and data images in controlled repositories.
  • Issue inspection reports, technical advisories, and integrity assessments following rig visits and investigations.
  • Ensure CMMS records and certification documents are complete, current, and aligned with regulatory requirements.
