Job Description
The Commis I – Pastry assists with the preparation, production, and presentation of pastry, bakery, and dessert items to hotel standards.
The role supports consistency, quality, hygiene, and timely service across pastry operations.
Responsibilities
- Assist with pastries, cakes, desserts, breads, and bakery items according to standard recipes.
- Support senior chefs with daily production tasks and maintain consistency in taste, presentation, and portioning.
- Follow HACCP and food safety standards and maintain a clean, organized pastry section and workstation.
- Store, label, and rotate food products using FIFO.
- Operate pastry equipment safely and correctly.
- Support buffets, banquets, and special events when required.
- Help minimize food waste, maintain cost-control practices, and report equipment faults or safety hazards.
- Follow senior pastry chef instructions and contribute to smooth kitchen operations.
Qualifications
- A diploma or degree in Culinary Arts or Hospitality.
- Hands-on kitchen experience in a professional setting.
- Previous experience in a five-star or premium hotel in a similar position.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment and work cohesively as part of a team.
- Excellent planning, organizational, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities with a proactive approach to challenges.
