Job Description

  • As a Commis 1 – Bakery at Waldorf Astoria Dubai International Financial Centre, a Forbes Five Star luxury hotel, you will support the Bakery team in preparing and presenting high quality pastry products while contributing to the delivery of exceptional culinary experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge of menu items, including ingredients, preparation methods, and presentation standards.
  • Prepare and maintain mise en place according to the requirements of the section.
  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of dishes as directed by the Chef de Partie and Executive Chef.
  • Ensure the assigned kitchen section is properly set up and organized before service.
  • Maintain high standards of kitchen hygiene, cleanliness, and food safety at all times.
  • Taste and examine food to ensure freshness, quality, and consistency with established standards.
  • Minimize food wastage and follow proper portion control procedures.
  • Develop a basic understanding of all food and beverage outlets within the hotel.
  • Attend daily briefings and ensure full understanding of operational updates and instructions.
  • Remain proactive in supporting kitchen operations and stay informed about hotel events and activities.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a Commis Chef role, preferably within a luxury hotel or high quality dining environment.
  • Positive attitude with a strong commitment to delivering exceptional guest experiences.
  • Very good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a dynamic and fast paced culinary environment.
  • Strong team player with the ability to follow direction and contribute collaboratively.
  • Eagerness to learn, develop, and build a successful career within the culinary and hospitality industry.
  • Basic Food Hygiene certification or equivalent food safety training.
  • Genuine passion for food, pastry, and the culinary arts.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to consistently deliver high standards of quality, presentation, and operational excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Educational background in Culinary Arts
  • Previous work experience within the hotel industry
  • NVQ Level 2
