Business System Analyst - Power BI

Role Overview

Requirements and Analysis

• Lead workshops, interviews, and BPMN process mapping to capture business goals, KPIs, and pain points.
• Produce BRDs, FRDs, user stories, acceptance criteria, and process or data-flow diagrams.
• Perform gap, feasibility, cost-benefit, and data-driven root-cause analyses.

Data and BI Delivery

• Define metrics and data contracts and translate KPIs into semantic models and datasets.
• Build Power BI dashboards and paginated reports with DAX and Power Query (M).
• Design star or snowflake models and optimize relationships, aggregations, and query performance.
• Implement row-level security, certified datasets, and deployment pipelines in Power BI Service.
• Manage workspaces, gateways, refresh schedules, versioning, releases, and UAT coordination.

Governance and Quality

• Establish data definitions, dictionaries, and lineage documentation.
• Partner with data engineering on ETL/ELT while ensuring data integrity, security, and compliance.
• Define test plans, validate results, and maintain runbooks and support SOPs.

Stakeholder Management and Adoption

• Act as a bridge between business, product, and engineering teams and prioritize backlogs using Jira or Azure DevOps.
• Deliver training, usage guidance, and change management to support self-service analytics.
• Present insights and recommendations through clear storytelling.

Required Qualifications

• 4–7 years as a Business or Systems Analyst, including 2+ years of hands-on Power BI experience.
• Strong Power BI skills in DAX, Power Query (M), star-schema modeling, performance tuning, and row-level security.
• Proficient SQL skills covering joins, CTEs, window functions, and data profiling.
• Experience with the BI lifecycle in Agile/Scrum environments using Jira, Azure DevOps, or Confluence.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder-management skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; an MBA is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to Azure SQL, Synapse, Data Lake, Data Factory, or an equivalent analytics stack.
• Knowledge of APIs, REST/JSON, ETL/ELT concepts, or Git-based workflows.
• Experience with DAX Studio, Tabular Editor, ALM Toolkit, or Power BI Premium features.
• PL-300, PSM/CSPO, IIBA CCBA/CBAP, or similar certification.
• Python or R for analytics, statistics, Power Automate, Power Apps, embedded analytics, or relevant domain experience.
