Role Overview
The role owns the design, implementation, and long-term maintenance of critical backend services and authorization systems.
The engineer will make architectural decisions balancing scalability, reliability, and security.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive performance optimization for high throughput, low latency, and predictable system behavior under load.
- Champion least-privilege, defense-in-depth, and secure coding practices.
- Improve code quality through design, code reviews, and comprehensive automated testing.
- Lead complex debugging and incident resolution efforts.
- Develop tools and processes to improve observability, reliability, and system availability.
- Collaborate with engineering, security, product, and other stakeholders on technical solutions.
- Mentor junior engineers and influence technical direction and best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Four or more years of experience building, operating, and scaling production backend systems.
- Proficiency in one or more backend programming languages such as Go, Java, Python, C++, or a similar language.
- Experience writing automated tests, performing code reviews, and debugging complex production issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with RESTful APIs, microservices or service-oriented architectures, and SQL or NoSQL data models.
- Experience building and optimizing high-throughput, high-availability systems.
- Knowledge of performance tuning and scalability trade-offs.
- Knowledge of backend security, authentication, authorization, least-privilege access, and secure service-to-service communication.
- Experience leading design discussions, mentoring engineers, and improving engineering practices.
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with product, infrastructure, and security teams.
