Responsibilities
- Develop and execute backend engineering strategies aligned with organizational objectives
- Lead the design, development, deployment, and maintenance of scalable backend applications, APIs, microservices, and distributed systems
- Manage backend architecture decisions to ensure high availability, scalability, reliability, security, and performance
- Collaborate with product management, frontend engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, QA, security, and data teams
- Establish engineering standards, coding guidelines, architecture principles, and development best practices
- Oversee SDLC activities including planning, code reviews, testing, deployment, release management, and continuous improvement
- Monitor KPIs including system availability, API performance, deployment frequency, lead time, defect rates, MTTR, and engineering productivity
- Drive performance optimization, database scalability, caching strategies, messaging systems, and application monitoring
- Lead incident response, root cause analysis, technical troubleshooting, and implementation of preventive measures
- Evaluate emerging backend technologies, frameworks, cloud services, and engineering tools
- Manage engineering resources, technical roadmaps, project priorities, budgets, and vendor relationships
- Prepare technical reports, engineering metrics, architecture documentation, and strategic recommendations for senior leadership
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field preferred
- 7+ years of experience in backend software engineering, software development, or distributed systems engineering
- 3+ years of experience managing software engineering teams or leading backend development initiatives preferred
- Strong understanding of backend architecture, RESTful APIs, GraphQL, microservices, distributed systems, database design, messaging systems, caching, and cloud native application development
- Experience with programming languages such as Java, C#, Python, Go, Node.js, or similar
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, Git, monitoring platforms
- Strong knowledge of software engineering best practices, secure coding principles, system design, DevOps, and Agile development methodologies
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking, leadership, organizational, and problem solving skills
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, mentoring, and cross functional collaboration abilities
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment
