Responsibilities
- Prepare and mix automotive paints according to manufacturer formulas
- Match paint colors using color codes, spectrophotometers, and tinting systems
- Adjust formulations to achieve precise color matching
- Prepare correct paint quantities to minimize waste
- Label mixed paints clearly with vehicle and job details
- Verify vehicle paint codes before mixing
- Perform spray out test panels to confirm color accuracy
- Adjust shades to compensate for fading or environmental effects
- Ensure consistency between paint batches
- Monitor stock levels of paints, toners, thinners, and related materials
- Record paint usage for each job and maintain accurate documentation
- Report low stock levels and coordinate replenishment
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Diploma or certification in Automotive Paint or related field (preferred)
- Training from automotive paint manufacturers is an advantage
- Experience in an automotive body shop or paint department
- Hands on experience with paint mixing and color matching
- Familiarity with water based and solvent based paint systems
- Strong knowledge of automotive paint systems and color theory
- Experience with computerized paint mixing systems
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong mathematical and measuring skills
- Ability to interpret paint formulas and technical data
- Good organizational and inventory management skills
