About the Role
The University of Ottawa is hiring an Assistant Coach for Women’s Basketball to support the Head Coach in technical coaching, recruiting, administration, and community outreach. - Assist in the implementation, preparation and evaluation of annual competitive objectives, practice sessions and competitions for assigned sub units
- Assist in delivery of team meetings, video analysis, performance analysis, sport psychology support, team building, academic monitoring and player evaluations
- Assist Head Coach in developing game strategies for each competition
- Assist in developing, organizing and monitoring off season training and practices as well as training camps
- Identify recruits across Canada through established network within the sport system and high school and college system
- Develop a recruiting package and ensure on going communication with recruits and their families
- Organize and conduct campus tours where appropriate
- Liaise with Sports Services Admissions and Housing representative and other university support as required
- Assist in developing and implementing a multi year recruiting plan by evaluating current roster and assessing upcoming needs
- Coordinate assigned program specific fundraising initiatives
- Work with Manager of Camps and Intramural Programs to coordinate sport specific summer Youth Camp program
- Assist Head Coach in monitoring academic progress of student athletes and coordinating academic support
Requirements
- Post secondary education
- Proven technical knowledge acquired through practical experience and coaching in the sport
- NCCP Trained Competition introduction, Level 1 NCCP certification or equivalent, or ability to acquire through challenge process
- Experience in using computer systems and software pertinent to sport analysis
- Bilingualism: Proficiency in written and spoken English or French, with strong comprehension of both languages
- Ability to work evenings and weekends in accordance with practice and league schedules

Position purpose
- Working in a holistic environment in developing student athletes, the Assistant Coach will support the Head Coach to allow the program to meet its objectives.
- The Assistant Coach will assume the roles and duties as assigned by and under the supervision of the Head Coach to include duties relating to technical coaching support, recruiting, general administration and team management support.
- The incumbent will also be required to assist with alumni, community events/activities, and other fundraising initiatives.
- The Assistant Coach may also be responsible for the coordination and implementation of technical schemes and game strategies for assigned sub units within the team.
Coaching (60%)
- According to the plan developed by the Head Coach, ensure the implementation, preparation and evaluation of the annual competitive objectives, practice sessions and competitions events for any assigned sub unit within the team.
- Assist in the delivery of team meetings, video analysis, performance analysis, sport psychology support, team building processes, academic monitoring and player evaluations.
- Assist the Head Coach (or Defensive Coordinator Football) to develop game strategies in preparation for each competition.
- Assist the Head Coach in developing, organizing and monitoring the off season training and practices as well as all training camps.
Recruiting (30%)
- Identify recruits across Canada through an established network within the sport system and high school and college system.
- Develop a recruiting package and ensure on going communication with the recruits and their families.
- Organize and conduct campus tours where appropriate.
- Liaison with Sports Services Admissions and Housing representative, The University of Ottawa Liaison Office representative and other university support as required.
- Assist in developing and implementing a multi year recruiting plan by evaluating the current roster and assessing the upcoming needs.
General administration, communications and community outreach – (10%)
- Coordinate assigned program specific fundraising initiatives in accordance with guidelines set out by the Service’s Marketing and Communications department.
- Work with the Manager of Camps and Intramural Programs to coordinate the implementation of the sport specific summer Youth Camp program
- Assist the Head Coach in monitoring the academic progress of the student athletes and coordinating the academic support requirements which includes liaison with the faculties and academic advisors where appropriate
- Coordinate the involvement of the U SPORT Program’s student athletes in community outreach and on campus promotions as assigned.
- Assist with the coordination of alumni relation & development activities.

Salary Range
- $69,393.00 $86,741.00 per year
