The Welding Inspector reports directly to the Chief Inspector.

This person will be knowledgeable of the specifications governing the project under construction.

It includes any references to codes, standards, etc., in other publications, e.g., API, ASME, ASTM, etc.

They will also need to be knowledgeable in inspecting pipeline welding, hydrostatic testing preparation, etc.

They will need to review client’s specifications and procedures for the above-mentioned tasks and ensure the Third-Party Contractor performs these tasks in compliance with the specification and procedures.

They will also need to work with the client and its Third-Party Contractors to complete the necessary Work.

Certifications

  • shall maintain certification through the American Welding Society (AWS) or National Welding Inspection School (“CWI/CPWI”).

Functions and Responsibilities

  • Performs duties as designated by the Chief Inspector in conformance with the job requirements outlined in the client’s specifications.
  • Prepares all appropriate reports, cataloging the day’s welding progress, repairs, and supplemental information. These reports become records of construction.

The following reports shall be completed and maintained:

  • Daily Report

• Welder Qualification Record

  • Weld Log

The WI will be expected to have the following equipment:

  • Device with the ability for taking and providing daily pictures as documentation of inspected activities.
  • Welding Inspector will be required to always have client Specification in their possession.
  • A digital or analog type of meter for checking amperage and voltage.
  • A stopwatch and tape for checking travel speed.
  • A Temp. Stick or handheld temperature gun for checking the pipe temperature.
  • Diameter or Pi Tape
  • Digital or Dial Caliper
  • Micrometer
  • Pipe Bevel and Land Gage
  • Magnifying Glass
  • Paint Markers
  • Handheld Mirror
  • Calculator

Suggested Required

  • Ability to stand and walk on flat and/or uneven terrain for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements such as bending, crouching, and kneeling.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle changing priorities.
  • Must be able to wear and work in personal protective equipment
  • Tolerance to work in various environmental conditions (e.g., heat, cold, noise, dust, rain, snow ).
  • Ability to safely operate inspection tools, laptops, and mobile devices.
  • This position requires the use of a personal vehicle for work-related travel. A valid driver’s license, proof of auto insurance, and a reliable vehicle are required.

Other duties and responsibilities may be required throughout job assignment.
