The Role
Build and manage a high-volume commercial vessel chartering operation.
Source, negotiate, and fix dry bulk, container, feeder, and MPP vessels.
Execute voyage charter, time charter, and slot charter agreements.
Develop dedicated vessel solutions for more than 3,000 containers per month.
Chartering and Voyage Responsibilities
- Negotiate directly with shipowners, operators, and shipbrokers.
- Optimize freight cost per metric ton or container and vessel utilization.
- Manage charterparties, laycan, NOR, laytime, demurrage, despatch, and deadfreight.
- Monitor bunker prices, Baltic indices, PDAs, and vessel availability.
- Coordinate loading, draft surveys, stowage, stevedores, surveyors, and port agents.
- Manage container payload, floor-loading, and heavy-weight restrictions.
- Identify backhaul cargo opportunities and improve vessel utilization.
- Oversee voyage profitability, claims, and final voyage reconciliation.
Who We Are Looking For
- 12–14 or more years of direct commercial vessel chartering experience.
- Strong UAE/GCC shipping market experience is essential.
- Proven ability to independently fix vessels.
- Hands-on experience with both dry bulk and container vessel chartering.
- An established network of shipowners, vessel operators, shipbrokers, liner operators, and port agencies.
- Experience in UAE–Pakistan, UAE–India, or GCC–South Asia trade lanes is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of ferrous scrap cargoes, including HMS 1&2, sheared HMS, shredded scrap, bales, and turnings.
- Strong knowledge of charterparties, bills of lading, Incoterms, P&I matters, and marine claims.
- ICS qualification or membership is preferred.
Target Candidate and Role Scope
Candidates may come from shipowners, vessel operators, shipbroking houses, commodity trading companies, steel or raw-material companies, or major shipping organizations in the UAE/GCC.
The role requires someone capable of independently building and managing a high-volume vessel chartering operation.
