Role Summary

The Technical Insurance Manager manages the end-to-end placement of insurance risks in the direct market across Property and Casualty and specialty lines.

The role supports Client Partners with technical queries and client meetings and maintains strong insurer relationships.

Working knowledge of reinsurance markets is a distinct advantage.

Placement and Market Engagement

  • Manage direct-market placement of P&C and specialty risks.
  • Prepare new and renewal risk submissions and negotiate insurer terms, pricing, and conditions.
  • Monitor insurer appetite and market trends to formulate placement strategy and client advice.
  • Maintain relationships with insurers, underwriters, and market contacts.
  • Apply reinsurance knowledge where facultative or reinsurance-backed capacity is required.

Client Technical Support

  • Assist Client Partners with technical queries, client meetings, and programme structuring.
  • Prepare coverage summaries, technical briefings, and insurer comparison reports.
  • Collaborate on renewals, coverage reviews, and mid-term adjustments.

Documentation and Leadership

  • Verify cover notes, policy schedules, endorsements, and other placement documentation.
  • Maintain regulatory compliance, governance standards, and complete placement files.
  • Mentor junior broking staff and contribute to best-practice development.

Qualifications and Experience

  • ACII, FIII, DipCII, or an equivalent qualification is required.
  • The role requires five to ten years of insurance broking experience with direct market placement experience.
  • A proven track record across P&C lines and technical broking support for Client Partners is required.
  • Working knowledge of reinsurance markets is advantageous.

Technical Knowledge

  • Property knowledge includes commercial property, IAR, business interruption, machinery breakdown, and engineering risks.
  • The role requires knowledge of EML/PML assessment, NatCat exposure, multi-location schedules, and construction or engineering risks.
  • The role requires familiarity with policy conditions, warranties, sub-limits, co-insurance, and valuation principles.
  • Casualty knowledge includes liability, professional indemnity, D&O, E&O, financial lines, cyber liability, and motor liability.
  • Awareness of UK, US, and international liability environments is required.

Key Competencies

  • Strong negotiation, communication, and analytical skills across P&C lines are required.
  • The role requires attention to detail and proficiency in broking platforms and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • The successful candidate should be self-motivated, commercially minded, client-focused, and committed to compliance.
