Role Overview

AirQ is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer for its Mechanical R&D team in Abu Dhabi.

This engineering position focuses on aircraft systems rather than IT systems engineering.

The role supports development of advanced unmanned aerial vehicle platforms.

System Requirements and Architecture

  • Define and maintain aircraft-level and subsystem-level technical requirements.
  • Translate operational, project, and customer needs into clear and testable engineering requirements.
  • Develop system architecture, functional breakdowns, technical specifications, and system-level concepts.
  • Allocate requirements to engineering teams and subsystems and maintain traceability through verification and testing.
  • Support technical trade-off studies and system-level engineering decisions.

Multidisciplinary System Integration

  • Coordinate integration of structures, propulsion, drivetrain, landing gear, payloads, cooling, avionics, electrical systems, and flight controls.
  • Define and manage mechanical, electrical, thermal, physical, and functional interfaces.
  • Review packaging, accessibility, maintainability, weight, and centre-of-gravity considerations.
  • Identify design or interface conflicts before assembly and testing.
  • Resolve multidisciplinary engineering and integration issues.

Interface and Configuration Management

  • Prepare and maintain Interface Control Documents and other system-interface records.
  • Coordinate interface requirements across Mechanical R&D, Powertrain, Avionics, Flight Control, Manufacturing, and Assembly, Integration and Testing teams.
  • Evaluate engineering-change impacts on connected systems, safety, weight, cost, and schedule.
  • Support configuration management and engineering change-control activities throughout the product lifecycle.

Reviews, Analysis, and Risk

  • Participate in requirements, preliminary design, critical design, test-readiness, and other engineering reviews.
  • Review CAD assemblies, drawings, calculations, specifications, test procedures, and engineering reports from a system-level perspective.
  • Conduct system-level assessments covering structural, thermal, vibration, aerodynamic, weight, balance, performance, reliability, and maintainability considerations.
  • Support risk assessments, failure analysis, root-cause analysis, and corrective and preventive actions.

Verification, Validation, and Testing

  • Develop verification and validation plans based on approved system requirements.
  • Define verification methods including inspection, analysis, demonstration, and testing.
  • Prepare and maintain requirement-verification matrices.
  • Support subsystem, ground, integration, environmental, and flight-test activities.
  • Review test results and coordinate resolution of issues identified during assembly, integration, testing, and flight operations.

Requirements

  • Experience in systems engineering for aircraft or unmanned aerial vehicle platforms.
  • Ability to define and maintain aircraft-level and subsystem-level technical requirements.
  • Ability to develop system architectures, functional breakdowns, technical specifications, and system-level concepts.
  • Experience coordinating mechanical, propulsion, avionics, electrical, flight-control, payload, and other subsystem interfaces.
  • Ability to conduct system-level assessments and support multidisciplinary engineering analysis.
  • Knowledge of verification methods including inspection, analysis, demonstration, and testing.
  • Ability to identify technical and integration risks and support corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ability to review technical drawings, calculations, specifications, test procedures, and engineering reports.
