Role Overview

The Superintendent manages the technical performance, maintenance coordination, and procurement activities of a workboat fleet.

The role combines technical supervision with procurement efficiency to support vessel availability and optimized fleet costs.

Technical Management

  • Oversee daily technical operations of assigned vessels for safe, reliable, and compliant performance.
  • Plan preventive maintenance, conduct vessel inspections, and report on vessel condition and maintenance needs.
  • Supervise dry-dockings, repairs, and modifications and prepare technical specifications and budgets.
  • Liaise with classification societies, flag authorities, and port state inspectors.

Procurement and Supply Chain

  • Source and purchase technical spares, lubricants, stores, and services.
  • Negotiate supplier contracts, prices, and delivery terms.
  • Maintain supplier databases, monitor inventory, control logistics, and optimize fleet supply chains.
  • Review and approve purchase orders according to budgets and company procedures.

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare maintenance and purchasing budgets for assigned vessels.
  • Monitor expenditure and report variances against budgets.
  • Contribute to fleet performance KPIs, cost control, and operational improvement initiatives.

HSE and Compliance

  • Ensure operations comply with company QHSE policies and maritime regulations.
  • Promote a strong safety culture onboard and within the technical department.
  • Support incident investigations and implement corrective actions when required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent maritime discipline.
  • Five to eight years of vessel technical-management experience, preferably with workboats, tugs, or offshore support vessels.
  • Strong knowledge of classification and flag requirements.
  • Proven procurement, vendor-management, and cost-control experience.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance and purchasing systems; MARAD experience is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills in English.
  • UAE or GCC experience is preferred.

Location

  • The role is located in Dubai or Abu Dhabi.
