Structural Design Engineer (Construction Contractor)

About the Role

Location and Salary

• Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
• Salary: AED 16,000–18,000 per month.

Design Coordination

• Coordinate structural design activities between consultants, subcontractors, engineers, and internal project teams.
• Review IFC drawings, structural drawings, shop drawings, specifications, and technical submissions for discrepancies.
• Carry out or review structural calculations for temporary works and support related design submissions.
• Coordinate structural requirements with Architectural and MEP disciplines to achieve clash-free designs.

Technical and Programme Delivery

• Raise and manage RFIs, track technical responses, and resolve design issues efficiently.
• Liaise with CAD and BIM teams on model updates, drawing revisions, and design changes.
• Track design deliverables against the approved project programme and follow up with consultants and subcontractors.
• Review shop drawings and material submittals for compliance with project information.
• Maintain drawing registers and ensure only approved current information is issued for construction.

Compliance and Risk

• Identify design changes that may affect project cost or programme and coordinate with Commercial and Project teams.
• Support Safety in Design principles and identify structural or design risks and mitigation measures.
• Ensure design documentation complies with UAE regulations, authority requirements, contractual requirements, and company HSE standards.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering is required.
• Civil Engineering alone will not be considered unless the qualification specifically meets the Structural Engineering requirement.
• Minimum 6–8 years of relevant structural engineering, design coordination, or closely related construction experience.
• Hands-on experience with structural calculations for temporary works is required.
• Experience in a main contractor or contractor environment is preferred.
• Valid UAE driving license is required.

Technical Skills

• Strong understanding of structural design principles, construction drawings, specifications, IFC drawings, and shop drawings.
• Strong knowledge of multidisciplinary coordination across Structural, Architectural, and MEP disciplines.
• Experience coordinating design submissions, RFIs, consultant comments, approvals, and revisions.
• Familiarity with UAE construction requirements, regulations, and authority approval processes.
• AutoCAD and BIM proficiency are highly desirable; Aconex or A-Site experience is advantageous.

• Ability to manage multiple design activities and deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment.
