Role Overview

The role involves delivering professional, ethical, and high-quality clinical care in obstetrics and gynaecology.

The position includes clinical risk management, governance compliance, accurate medical records, professional development, and ethical clinical practice.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provide prenatal, childbirth, and postnatal care and monitor the condition and progress of patients and babies.
  • Perform Cesarean sections, emergency surgery, and other procedures required to preserve health and deliver babies safely.
  • Assess patients using interviews, histories, examinations, tests, screenings, biopsies, and scans.
  • Perform Pap smears, pelvic examinations, breast examinations, and well-woman assessments.
  • Treat diseases and injuries of the female reproductive system and prescribe appropriate care and medication.
  • Explain procedures, test results, treatment plans, medication instructions, and expected side effects.
  • Provide dietary guidance, infant health advice, and alternative treatment options when required.
  • Monitor treatment complications and take remedial action where possible.
  • Coordinate care with other physicians and consult specialist colleagues when necessary.
  • Supervise nurses, physician assistants, medical technicians, and other medical staff.

Specialist Requirements

  • At least 3–5 years of post-qualification experience at Specialist level, independent of country.
  • At least 1 year of Specialist-level experience from a Tier 1 country specified by the UAE healthcare regulator.
  • Basic medical degree and a recognized specialty qualification or education programme, such as a fellowship or diploma.
  • Certification and registration in a specialty recognized by the relevant UAE healthcare authority.
  • Active and valid life support certification, such as BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATLS, or NRP.
  • Eligibility for UAE healthcare authority registration through a recognized qualification or equivalent.

Occupational Safety and Health

  • Comply with OSH instructions, policies, safe working procedures, emergency procedures, and evacuation requirements.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems and assist with risk assessments.
  • Report hazards, incidents, near misses, and issues and attend OSH training, awareness programmes, and mock drills.
  • Participate in OSHMS audits and inspections and support waste reduction, reuse, and recycling.

Infection Prevention and Control

  • Implement the NMC infection prevention and control policy and strategy to maintain high standards of cleanliness.
  • Follow hand hygiene requirements, including the five moments of hand hygiene, bare-below-the-elbows practice, and environmental care.
