- Develop scalable backend applications and services for the eCommerce ecosystem
- Build and maintain custom Shopify applications, app extensions, and backend functionalities
- Develop secure APIs, middleware, and integration systems
- Build and maintain integrations between Shopify, 3PL, ERP, and internal systems
- Optimize API response times, server performance, application stability, and backend scalability
- Implement retry mechanisms, logging, monitoring, caching, and error handling strategies
- Collaborate with developers and cross functional teams to deliver seamless digital experiences
- Troubleshoot production issues, integration failures, API bottlenecks, and system performance concerns
- Improve deployment workflows, release management processes, and environment optimization practices
- Contribute to backend architecture improvements and long term scalability planning
Requirements
- 3–5+ years of backend development experience
- Strong hands on experience with Shopify backend architecture and ecosystem
- Proven experience in building scalable custom Shopify applications
- Extensive experience with API integrations, webhooks, and third party service integrations
- Experience with MongoDB / PostgreSQL / MySQL optimization
- Strong understanding of secure API development and authentication
- Experience building standalone applications or SaaS platforms
- Familiarity with cloud scalability and enterprise application architecture
- Good understanding of Git and collaborative development workflows
- Ability to write clean, structured, maintainable, production ready code

Your Purpose
- Reporting to the Head of Digital Transformation, the Backend Developer – Shopify is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend applications, custom Shopify solutions, APIs, middleware, and system integrations that support business and operational requirements.
- The role drives backend performance, application stability, and platform scalability while collaborating with cross functional teams to deliver secure, high performing digital solutions.
Your Impact
- Develop scalable backend applications and services that align with the eCommerce ecosystem and business operations.
- Build and maintain custom Shopify applications, app extensions, and backend functionalities tailored to business requirements.
- Develop store specific features using shopify functions and UI extensions.
- Develop secure APIs, middleware, and integration systems.
- Build standalone applications and backend platforms aligned with operational and business needs.
- Build and maintain integrations between Shopify, 3PL, ERP, and internal systems.
- Develop backend services for automation workflows, synchronization processes, and operational efficiencies.
- Optimize API response times, server performance, application stability, and backend scalability.
- Implement retry mechanisms, logging, monitoring, caching, and error handling strategies.
- Collaborate with developers and cross functional teams to deliver seamless and scalable digital experiences.
- Troubleshoot production issues, integration failures, API bottlenecks, and system performance concerns.

Shopify Backend Development
- Strong hands on experience with Shopify backend architecture and ecosystem.
- Proven experience in building scalable custom Shopify applications aligned with business and operational requirements.
- Develop backend functionalities that seamlessly integrate with store experiences.
- Creating app extensions and backend systems tailored to requirement specific workflows and platform needs.
- Strong experience in building middleware and integration layers between Shopify and external systems.
API & Integration Engineering
- Extensive experience with API integrations, webhooks, Third party service integrations, Secure data exchange.
System Architecture & Scalability
- Strong expertise in Scalable application architecture, high performance backend systems
- Error handling and performance optimization.
Database Engineering
- Experience with MongoDB / PostgreSQL / MySQL optimization
- Knowledge of Data modelling and schema design.
Security & Authentication
- Strong understanding of Secure API development, Secure data handling practices, Authentication and token management.
Your Expertise
- 3–5+ years of backend development experience.
- Experience building standalone applications or SaaS platforms.
- Familiarity with cloud scalability and enterprise application architecture.
- Experience handling production environments.
- Knowledge of automation workflows and operational systems.
- Good understanding of Git and collaborative development workflows.
- Ability to write clean, structured, maintainable, production ready code.
- Comfort with debugging live issues and solving technical problems independently.
- Familiarity with testing, deployment workflows, and production releases.
- Strong ownership mindset with a product building attitude.
