About the role
Roku is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for its UI team to build systems supporting the user experience and developer platform.
The role focuses on performance-critical graphics rendering, animation, layout, and UI framework code across a wide range of devices.
The engineer will help shape core architecture and work with hardware, firmware, and application teams.
What you will do
- Build scalable UI features optimized for millions of users.
- Lead technical investigations and architect middleware, UI framework, and rendering pipeline solutions.
- Integrate AI and generative AI capabilities into development workflows.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver platform features with measurable performance and reliability gains.
- Develop tooling, frameworks, and automated workflows that improve developer efficiency and code quality.
- Mentor junior developers through design reviews, pair programming, and technical documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve performance and developer experience.
Experience and qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience focused on UI frameworks or application development.
- Advanced BrightScript or JavaScript-like skills and proficiency in Python.
- Knowledge and hands-on experience using C++.
- Strong root cause analysis skills and clear technical communication.
- Knowledge of AI applications and hands-on experience with generative AI tools and workflows.
- TypeScript experience is a plus.
- A proactive mindset and passion for continuous learning, fast iteration, and data-driven optimization.
Hybrid working approach
- Teams generally work in the office Monday through Thursday.
- Fridays are generally flexible for remote work, except where the role or assigned office requires five days of attendance.
