About the team and role
The UI Systems team builds high-performance C++ frameworks, rendering pipelines, and system architectures for embedded Roku devices.
The role focuses on performance-critical UI engine code, graphics primitives, memory efficiency, hardware acceleration, and robust APIs for higher-level frameworks.
What you'll be doing
- Architect and optimize C++ UI frameworks and rendering engines across hardware profiles.
- Investigate system bottlenecks, memory leaks, and GPU/CPU synchronization issues.
- Develop low-level graphics APIs and layout systems for Roku applications.
- Integrate AI/ML and generative AI tools into systems-level development and performance profiling.
- Partner with firmware and driver teams on hardware-specific optimizations and OS integration.
- Mentor junior developers through code reviews, design sessions, and technical documentation.
- Implement debugging tools, automated performance regression suites, and modern C++ practices.
Qualifications
- At least 5 years of software engineering experience focused on C++.
- Deep systems programming knowledge covering memory management, multithreading, and hardware-software abstraction layers.
- Experience with graphics APIs and rendering pipelines.
- Python proficiency for tooling and automation.
- Strong root cause analysis skills using debugging or profiling tools.
- Knowledge of AI applications and hands-on generative AI tool experience.
- BrightScript or JavaScript knowledge is a significant plus.
Hybrid working
- Teams generally work in the office Monday through Thursday, with Fridays generally flexible for remote work.
- Some roles or assigned office locations may require attendance five days per week.
