Senior Software Engineer, Embedded UI

Role overview

Responsibilities

• Design and develop screensavers, wallpapers, trivia, featured experiences, and other Roku platform features.
• Build proof-of-concept prototypes, iterate quickly, and adapt validated solutions for scalable production deployment.
• Collaborate with UI/UX, backend engineering, product management, and business leadership.
• Use AI, machine learning, and large language models to create innovative platform capabilities.
• Investigate and resolve technical issues while contributing to API design decisions.
• Deliver end-to-end solutions across cloud development, content management, and UI development.

Experience and qualifications

• Extensive experience in a software engineering environment and experience working in an embedded environment.
• Demonstrated project work using AI, machine learning, and large language model technologies.
• Proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, React Native, Python, BrightScript, or related scripting technologies.
• Experience productionising content management, UI, cloud, and cloud backend solutions.
• Knowledge of memory management, multithreading, and other core operating system concepts.
• Experience with API design and its technical trade-offs.
• Strong communication and cross-team collaboration skills.
• A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related field is listed.
• Consumer electronics experience in media, content, or advertising product development is a plus.

Hybrid working

• Teams generally work in the office Monday through Thursday, with Fridays generally flexible for remote work.
• Some roles or assigned office locations may require attendance in the office five days per week.
