Role Summary
Accountable for the safe, reliable and cost-effective performance of assigned distribution-centre operations.
Translate fulfilment strategy and customer commitments into daily execution across inbound, storage, inventory control, value-added services and outbound activities.
Lead people, capacity, assets and operational controls to deliver service, productivity, quality and cost targets while protecting employees, stock and the facility.
Operational Leadership and Planning
- Lead receiving, put-away, storage, replenishment, picking, value-added services, packing and dispatch operations.
- Convert forecasts, order priorities and customer commitments into executable shift plans and daily operating rhythms.
- Develop capacity plans for labour, shifts, space, equipment and throughput in line with forecast demand.
- Optimise labour deployment, attendance, overtime and temporary staffing while managing service levels and employee wellbeing.
- Manage operating costs, productivity drivers, budgeting, workforce planning and capital-investment business cases.
Performance and Inventory Control
- Establish performance routines covering service, throughput, productivity, cost, quality, inventory, safety and people indicators.
- Validate performance data, investigate variances and ensure corrective actions have owners and completion dates.
- Lead root-cause analysis and continuous-improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma or equivalent methodologies.
- Protect inventory integrity through stock handling, location control, cycle counting, reconciliation and discrepancy investigation.
- Reduce receiving, picking, packing and shipping errors through quality controls and corrective actions.
People, Safety and Facilities
- Lead, coach and hold supervisors and operational teams accountable while building technical and leadership capability.
- Partner with Human Resources on workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, performance management and employee relations.
- Own health, safety and environmental compliance, including ISO 45001, ISO 14001, emergency procedures and company standards.
- Safeguard the facility, inventory, employees and visitors through access control, security, housekeeping and loss prevention.
- Optimise layout, slotting and space utilisation and coordinate maintenance of equipment, infrastructure and emergency systems.
Customers and Stakeholders
- Build relationships with internal functions, customers, transport partners, suppliers and service providers to align priorities and resolve issues.
- Provide performance updates, risk assessments and recovery plans, and support customer reviews, audits, peak readiness and new service implementation.
What You’ll Need To Succeed
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering or a related discipline.
- 9-10 years of progressive experience in warehousing, distribution or fulfilment operations.
- At least three to five years in a senior leadership role.
- Experience leading a large, multi-shift operation and delivering measurable improvements in safety, service, productivity, cost and inventory accuracy.
- Strong knowledge of warehouse management systems, enterprise resource planning systems, operational reporting and data-led performance management.
- Knowledge of inventory control, labour and capacity planning, quality management, workplace safety and distribution-centre best practices.
- Basic knowledge of SQL is a plus.
