The Senior Manager Distribution Centre is accountable for safe, reliable, and cost-effective performance across assigned distribution-centre operations.
The role leads people, capacity, assets, and operational controls across inbound, storage, inventory control, value-added services, and outbound activities.
Operational Leadership
- Lead receiving, put-away, storage, replenishment, picking, value-added services, packing, and dispatch operations.
- Convert forecasts and customer commitments into shift plans, operating rhythms, and clear accountabilities.
- Maintain operational control across shifts, resolve exceptions, and ensure warehouse-management-system transactions are completed correctly.
Planning and Performance
- Develop capacity plans covering labour, shifts, space, equipment, and throughput requirements.
- Optimise labour deployment, staffing, controllable costs, and productivity while protecting service, safety, and employee wellbeing.
- Review service, throughput, productivity, cost, quality, inventory, safety, and people performance indicators.
- Lead variance investigation, root-cause analysis, continuous improvement, and standardisation of successful changes.
Inventory and Quality
- Protect inventory integrity through stock handling, location control, cycle counting, reconciliation, and authorised adjustments.
- Reduce receiving, picking, packing, and shipping errors through quality controls and corrective actions.
- Maintain the Quality Management System and drive compliance with ISO 9001 and internal audit standards.
People and Safety
- Lead, coach, and hold warehouse supervisors and operational teams accountable for performance.
- Partner with Human Resources on workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and employee relations.
- Own health, safety, environmental, emergency, security, and loss-prevention requirements, including ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
Facilities and Stakeholders
- Optimise warehouse layout, slotting, space utilisation, material flow, equipment, infrastructure, and maintenance activities.
- Build relationships with internal functions, customers, transport partners, suppliers, and service providers.
- Support customer reviews, operational audits, peak-readiness planning, and implementation of new services, systems, and process changes.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, engineering, or a related discipline.
- Nine to ten years of progressive warehousing, distribution, or fulfilment experience, including three to five years in senior leadership.
- Experience leading a large, multi-shift operation and delivering measurable safety, service, productivity, cost, and inventory improvements.
- Strong knowledge of warehouse-management systems, enterprise resource planning, operational reporting, inventory control, capacity planning, and workplace safety.
- Basic SQL knowledge is a plus.
