Role Purpose

Key Responsibilities

• End-to-End Infrastructure Overhaul: Audit, redesign, and completely re-engineer BFL Group's data architecture from scratch to handle high-velocity retail transaction records, eliminating systemic bottlenecks and data latency.
• Multi-Cloud Ecosystem Governance: Architect, optimize, and manage highly resilient cloud environments spanning Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
• Data Lake & Warehouse Architecture: Design and deploy enterprise-scale Data Lakes and structured cloud Data Warehouses optimized for retail metrics such as stock turn-over, Open-to-Buy (OTB), gross margins, and customer basket dynamics.
• Data Integration Pipelines: Build fault-tolerant, high-capacity ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest, clean, and synchronize diverse data types originating from ERPs, POS systems, e-commerce applications, and warehouse logistics.
• Power BI Ecosystem Ownership: Steer the administration, data modelling, semantic layer building, and visual architecture layout within Power BI, ensuring reporting reliability for executive and commercial teams.
• Data Democratization: Translate granular transactional database tables into clear, actionable datasets, empowering analytical and commercial stakeholders to pull insights with precision.
• Workflow Automation: Eradicate manual reporting, brittle custom configurations, and slow data extractions by replacing them with modern, event-driven data workflows and orchestration tools (e.g., Apache Airflow or Prefect).
• AI Project Delivery & Implementation: Lead the foundational data mapping, pipeline provisioning, and operational deployment for BFL Group's upcoming high-priority AI initiatives (e.g., Predictive Markdown Optimization or Demand Forecasting).
• MLOps Architecture: Build end-to-end MLOps capabilities, ensuring production-ready machine learning models receive clean real-time training features and feed their inference outputs smoothly back into operational systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Engineering, Information Technology, or a closely related analytical field.
• 7 to 10 years of professional data engineering experience, with a heavy emphasis on architecting infrastructure transformations, database migrations, or completely re-engineering production pipelines.
• Geographic Focus: Must be currently based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with a valid residency.
• Multi-Cloud Mastery: In-depth, production-level expertise utilizing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Amazon Web Services (AWS) concurrently.
• Core Technical Stack: Advanced programming fluency in Python (for data pipelines and AI structures) and expert-level SQL command (for query optimizations and database schemas).
• BI Mastery: Expert knowledge of Power BI analytics, including detailed DAX formulas, M-code transformations, star-schema optimization, and enterprise dashboard administration.
• Retail Mindset: Commercially minded, hands-on, and comfortable working in a fast-moving trading environment with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
