Role overview

Solink is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to build and lead the Media Platform team.

The team owns services supporting media ingestion, processing, storage, retrieval, and playback across Solink’s platform.

The role combines technical leadership, people management, distributed-platform strategy, and delivery of scalable and reliable services.

Workplace and employment

  • The role is based in Ottawa, Ontario and is hybrid.
  • The position is permanent and full-time.
  • Periodic in-person visits to the Ottawa office are required, generally quarterly, with onboarding in Ottawa during the first week.

Key responsibilities

  • Set the Media Platform technical strategy and roadmap.
  • Lead high-volume event-driven services and guide architecture for service boundaries, data models, APIs, and integrations.
  • Modernize services while maintaining platform stability and supporting product development.
  • Establish observability, testing, deployment, reliability, performance, and incident-response practices.
  • Optimize cloud resources and lead complex production incident response.
  • Partner with stakeholders on delivery plans and hire, coach, and develop engineers and technical leads.
  • Improve tooling, documentation, runbooks, and development processes, including AI-assisted engineering workflows.

Must-have qualifications

  • At least three years managing technical teams and at least five years of software engineering experience.
  • At least five years working with video in large-scale cloud and edge or endpoint production pipelines.
  • Experience with WebRTC, HLS, RTSP, FFmpeg, GStreamer, backend or infrastructure software, and embedded or IoT roles.
  • Experience owning high-volume, low-latency production services end to end.
  • Hands-on AWS experience and strong knowledge of distributed systems, observability, CI/CD, and production troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience with AIDLC tooling and engineering workflow enablement.

Technical skills

  • AWS services include SQS, EKS, Redis, CloudFront, S3, and Lambda.
  • Required concepts include asynchronous processing, eventual consistency, idempotency, stateless scaling, logs, metrics, traces, and OpenTelemetry.
  • Required delivery practices include staging and production environments, gradual rollouts, canary releases, and incident response.
  • Preferred experience includes codecs or DSP, Serverless or Kubernetes, TypeScript or Rust, and GCP or Azure.

Security requirements

  • Candidates must complete a criminal records check upon hire.
  • Candidates must comply with Solink security policies and standards.
  • Candidates must be legally eligible to work in Canada and meet applicable security requirements.

Compensation

  • The stated compensation range is CA$193,000 to CA$227,000.
