Assesses the feasibility of proposed plans, projects, and scope of engineering work from a process control perspective. • Participates in the planning and creation of drawings and documents involving detailed analysis and design for industrial control systems. • Determines and develops process control and automation specifications, standards, and criteria for materials, equipment, and instrumentation. • Develops the designs, calculations, engineering deliverables and documentation for process control and automation scope of work on client projects. • Evaluates and reviews all process control engineering work for adherence to specifications, standards, and criteria as well as against applicable project scope, codes of authorities having jurisdiction, and integration with other disciplines. • Ensures design compliance with relevant engineering procedures and guidelines, as well as internal QA/QC procedures. • Collaborates with and provides direction & mentorship to intermediate and junior staff in the process control group. • Collaborates with other DMC departments including construction and site operations. • Contributes to and reviews engineering scope proposals, engineering cost estimates, design change notices, and operational change notices. • Defines the scope of process control engineering work for project proposals, estimating, and executing projects. • Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering or equivalent. • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the province of Ontario. • 10+ years of engineering experience working on heavy industrial projects for process controls, automation, and/or instrumentation in the role of an engineer. • Experience in the mining industry is an asset. • Working knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices, industry and regulatory codes and standards (CSA, IEEE, ISA, NFPA). • Ability and interest in developing process control, automation, and instrumentation standards, guidelines, and best practices for engineering design work involved in the mining industry. • Experience in low voltage planning, engineering design, installation, operation, and maintenance of electrical, instrumentation, and industrial controls systems. • Experience in industrial control system design involving: PLC, HMI, DCS, SCADA, and networking & communications. • Experience with commissioning of equipment and controls systems, and control software development is an asset. • Exceptional communication skills with ability to understand and follow detailed oral and written instructions. • Strong team player with ability to coordinate and work with other engineering disciplines. • Proficient with engineering design software tools and control system software tools such as those from major control system manufacturers (Rockwell, Siemens, GE, Schneider, etc.). • Proficient with Microsoft software tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.).
