Role Overview

Jacobs is hiring a Senior Engineer - Fire Protection for fire protection engineering activities in industrial projects.

The role is associated with Mechanical capabilities and an Advanced Manufacturing industry group.

The role includes technical leadership, design delivery, team guidance, and client coordination.

Workplace

  • The position is described as hybrid.
  • The role may involve working from Jacobs offices or projects and remote locations.

Fire Protection Engineering

  • Lead fire protection system engineering and complete design work under company and project procedures.
  • Prepare bases of design, master plans, concepts, schematics, fire tanks, and pump room plans.
  • Develop fire protection designs using NFPA, TAC, NBC, and applicable insurance agency standards.
  • Prepare design basis reports, tender drawings, technical specifications, and rate analysis.

Calculations and Design Coordination

  • Complete heat load, pressure loss, pipe sizing, water demand, flow, pump sizing, pit sizing, drainage, sewage, and rainwater harvesting calculations.
  • Prepare MEP schematics, drawings, equipment selections, and equipment sizing.
  • Coordinate MEP designs with clients, vendors, internal disciplines, and other stakeholders.
  • Guide designers in 2D and 3D engineering and review models, layouts, and material take-offs.

Procurement and Delivery

  • Prepare material specifications and bills of quantities for fire protection items.
  • Prepare cost estimates for fire protection packages.
  • Support procurement through enquiry specifications, technical offer reviews, technical recommendations, and order specifications.
  • Complete designs, requisitions, and engineering deliverables on time and within agreed manhours and budgets.

Team and Client Management

  • Manage the PHE and firefighting mechanical design team and perform design quality assurance.
  • Provide technical guidance to designers and draftspeople.
  • Participate in client discussions and address client feedback or complaints.
  • Visit sites to complete residual engineering and resolve site queries.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related Mechanical discipline is required.
  • At least 14 years of fire protection experience in an engineering consultancy organization is required.
  • Experience may include pharmaceutical, biotech, food, chemical, or battery projects.
  • Working knowledge of NBC, IS, TAC, NFPA, and FMG requirements is required.
  • Autodesk AutoCAD and Microsoft Office user knowledge is required.
  • Knowledge of PipeNet or similar hydraulic calculation software is required.
  • Autodesk Revit and additional software tools are preferred.
