Engineering Manager - Protection and Control

Role Overview

Work Arrangement

• The listed office setup is hybrid.
• The role is associated with Jacobs engineering delivery centres across India, including Hyderabad and other major cities.

Strategic Leadership and Growth

• Define and drive the Protection and Control engineering vision and strategy in line with business objectives.
• Lead regional and global capability development for substations and renewable energy projects.
• Support business development, proposals, strategic client engagement, and key client relationships.
• Identify digital opportunities, innovation areas, digital substations, and grid modernization initiatives.

Technical Authority and Governance

• Act as principal design owner for Protection and Control systems up to 400/765kV.
• Establish engineering standards, design frameworks, and quality benchmarks.
• Provide oversight for protection SLDs, system philosophies, schematics, relay coordination, and settings.
• Approve critical engineering deliverables, including IFC drawings and design reviews.
• Drive IEC 61850 digital substation adoption and best practices.

People and Global Collaboration

• Lead, mentor, and grow a large multidisciplinary Protection and Control engineering team.
• Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, innovation, and collaboration.
• Drive talent development, succession planning, capability building, and retention.
• Lead collaboration with Global Integrated Delivery teams and standardize global delivery models.
• Champion digital engineering tools, automation, and data-driven design.

Client and Stakeholder Management

• Act as a senior client interface for strategic global relationships.
• Lead high-level technical discussions and project reviews.
• Resolve complex client issues and escalations proactively.
• Work with senior Energy and Power leadership, global P&C leaders, project directors, project managers, and GID teams.

Qualifications

• BE, BTech, ME, or MTech degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Extensive experience in Protection and Control engineering.
• Substation experience up to 400/765kV is desirable.

Mandatory Skill Sets

• Deep expertise in Protection and Control design and the engineering lifecycle.
• Strong understanding of international standards and grid codes across multiple regions.
• Experience with IEC 61850 digital substations and modern grid technologies.
• Strong commercial acumen with knowledge of project financials and risk management.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
• Expertise with AutoCAD, MicroStation, DIGSI, PCM600, and EnerVista; ETAP or Python is preferred.
• Ability to lead large teams and complex global projects.
