About the Role

  • We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Crude Oil Trader to manage and grow its MED and WAF crude book.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for originating, structuring and executing crude oil transactions across the Mediterranean and West African basins.

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively manage a crude oil trading book focused on MED & WAF grades (CPC Blend, Es Sider, Saharan Blend, Bonny Light, Forcados, Girassol, Djeno, CLSS) to maximise margins and optimise risk adjusted returns.
  • Execute physical and paper transactions including spot cargoes, term contracts, CFDs, EFPs and Brent spreads on ICE and OTC markets.
  • Develop and maintain long term commercial relationships with NOCs, IOCs, refiners and trading counterparties across the Mediterranean and West Africa.
  • Analyse market fundamentals: regional supply/demand balances, quality differentials, refinery runs, shipping logistics and port access constraints.
  • Identify and capture cross basin arbitrage opportunities between Atlantic, Mediterranean and Asian markets.
  • Oversee trade execution from nomination to delivery: lay cans, B/Ls, letters of credit, coordination with middle and back office teams.
  • Monitor and manage risk exposure within VaR, stop loss and credit limits; contribute to daily P&L reporting.
  • Participate in long term supply negotiations and off take discussions with regional producers.

Candidate Profile

  • Minimum 10 years of crude oil trading experience with substantial exposure to MED and/or WAF crudes.
  • In depth knowledge of crude grades produced in the Mediterranean (Libya, Algeria, Tunisia, Italy, Azerbaijan) and West Africa (Nigeria, Angola, Congo, Cameroon, Gabon).
  • Strong command of crude pricing mechanisms: Dated Brent, CFDs, EFPs, inter grade spreads and quality/freight differentials.
  • Established network of relationships with NOCs, IOCs, refiners and brokers across the region.
  • Sound understanding of tanker chartering (Aframax/Suezmax) and regional port logistics.
  • Ability to operate with high autonomy in a fast paced, high pressure trading environment.
  • Fluent in English (mandatory).
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency with trading tools: Bloomberg, Platts, Reuters Eikon.

Education

  • Master's degree or equivalent in Finance, Economics, International Business or Engineering from a leading university or Grande École.
  • CFA, FRM or commodity trading certifications are a plus.
