About the Role
Justlife is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to own core marketplace services including smart matching, real-time operations, and platform integrations. You will work with Java, Spring Boot, and distributed systems, and help evolve legacy PHP services.

Responsibilities
- Take end to end ownership of services at the core of the marketplace
- Set technical direction in your domain and raise the engineering bar
- Mentor the engineers around you
- Work on smart matching at scale: customer to supplier dispatching algorithms
- Work on live operations: real time order tracking and availability & assignment systems
- Design and optimize APIs for third party integrations
- Work on data & reliability: database modeling, attribute management system, performance at scale
- Contribute to experimentation & AI: A/B experimentation structures and prototyping with AI tools
- Help evolve a legacy PHP 7 service (Symfony/Doctrine) and migrate it onto the Java platform
- Join on call rota
Requirements
- Strong proficiency in Java and hands on experience with Spring Boot (MVC architecture, RESTful services)
- Deep comfort with relational databases (MySQL) and ORM frameworks such as Hibernate
- Experience designing distributed, high throughput systems — message queues (RabbitMQ) and caching (Redis)
- Solid grasp of SOLID principles, object oriented design and design patterns, with strong code quality and testing discipline
- Senior level ownership: can take a service from design to production, make sound technical trade offs, and lift the people around you
- Experience with NoSQL (MongoDB)
- Exposure to AI agents and automation frameworks
- Cloud and container experience (AWS, Docker, Kubernetes)
- Comfort with Git based workflows and CI/CD
- Experience with PHP

Role Overview

What You'll Own
